Outlook 2007 in a loop

Two days ago I downloaded an update for outlook from MS. At the same time, I received two emails that ever since have been downloading and downloading. Then i receive an error message and do i want to let MS know. I receive the data has been corrupted and trying to repair message every time outlook opens. I have deleted the messages from my server and rebooted repeatedly to no avail. I am out of town, so cannot send items directly using my server, so can’t use the tools message test repair option.

I am clearly in a loop.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Try running SCANPST to find and fix any corruption in your local mail file.

It’s always a good idea to make sure that all applications are closed when updating Office (or any other application for that matter.)

I set Automatic Updates to allow them to download and then notify me that they were ready. That allows me to make sure everything
is closed before initiating the update. Also, by choosing Custom install, I can see what’s actually being installed and disallow anything
that I really don’t want (despite Microsoft’s assertion that I really do need it!)

Also, Outlook 2007 is an odd duck. I’ve found that by closing all your applications, then searching for and deleting any files starting with
~$ in folder: C:Documents and Settings{Your User ID}Application DataMicrosoftTemplates[/color] often resolves problems. With Outlook
2007, Microsoft introduced all the problems of Word by using Word’s HTML rendering engine and also duplicating Word’s trouble-prone
“Normal.dotm” template environment, named appropriately: NormalEmail.dotm. Deleting this file won’t hurt anything either, as just as it
occurs with Word, Outlook will rebuild this file if it doesn’t exist. (Note – any formatting changes will be lost as deleting this file will be,
in essence, restoring your template to the same state as a fresh install.)

And also despite Microsoft’s assurances that the ~$ files are merely “lock” files, deleting them often makes a difference as to how the
application acts.

It doesn’t hurt to clean out the C:Documents and Settings{Your User ID}[/color]Local SettingsTemp folder on occasion and clearing out
the files in the C:WINDOWSTemp folder as well.
