Does anyone have any experience in installing the standalone version of OL 2002?
Particularly, does it support upgrading from OL97 – will I still be able to access my old folders and contacts fom the earlier version?

yes, it will upgrade over 97 and the mailbox will remain accessible. Rules will probably need tobe recreated, since hte rules engine has changed since 97’s lame attempt.

Just in addition for those listening in: My rules from 2000 didn’t work right in 2002.

Funny – I found all my rules did work OK – I have a vague recollection of there being a warning message they might not.
One thing I did appreciate is that OL2002 appears to use the rules immediately – I found if I started OL2000 with messages waiting at the server, the first collection of messages was not processed.
(Note: these are mainly simple routing to specific folder rules.)
