We have been using Revo Uninstaller Pro 5.3.5 to completely remove Microsoft Edge from our computers.

However, after completing the uninstall process over time Edge reappears.

Is it possible to prevent Edge from repeatedly reappearing on Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 systems?

Is it possible to prevent Edge from repeatedly reappearing on Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 systems?

Hi Kathy, I can tell you what I do. Edge creeps back in by installing “MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe” in “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate” first. After I noticed this, I created a shortcut on my desktop to the folder, “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft”, and named it “Edge Check”. Double-clicking on that shortcut gives me a quick peek at whether the subfolder “EdgeUpdate” has returned. Then I would use Forced Uninstall in Revo to uninstall “MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe”.

Doing this for a few weeks, I found that EdgeUpdate was getting reinstalled about weekly, so I’d click on my shortcut about once a week to check. If it was there, I’d run a Forced Uninstall once again. I leave EdgeWebView, because a few routines and websites use it. My video editing software uses it.

Having established the frequency, I created a batch file for the Revo Uninstaller command line utility to run in an elevated Command Prompt. I have Revo Uninstaller installed in H:\Program Files\VS Revo Group. Here is the Batch file—just change H:\ for the drive letter where you have Revo Uninstaller:

      “H:\Program Files\VS Revo Group\Revo Uninstaller Pro\RevoUninPro” /mu “MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe” /path “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate” /mode Advanced /32

After running the batch file, the EdgeUpdate folder is still there, but a reboot gets rid of it. Having tested this for a couple of weeks, I’m going to create a task in Task Scheduler to run this batch file weekly.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!

Edge has stayed away completely with no attempts to re-install ever! on W11 23H2 using a batch file that offers the option to keep or remove webview2 during execution.
Whether that works for 24H2 is questionable atm which is why we are staying on 23H2 until the script is updated accordingly.
I’ll disclose the info somewhere when that update happens 🙂

Same here. I haven’t seen Edge in a couple of years on my Win11 23H2. BTW, (I don’t use Revo Uninstaller)

FWIW, I never ‘see’ Edge after it gets reinstalled unless I look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeCore\ where all the goodies are. It doesn’t show up in Apps, or open any websites, or anything else, so I don’t ‘see’ it, either. That’s why I put the shortcut on my desktop.

I used this guy’s script to remove MS Edge, which is even better than using Revo Uninstaller Pro

      PKCano,

Coming from you, this gets my attention.

I’m a long time user of Revo Pro, but I’m always open to suggestions if you have any.  Understand if not.

Does the script block auto re-installing of Edge ?

According to the script it does because it removes webview and other things that trigger the install.

        cheers, Paul
