I upgraded not long ago to .Net Framework 4.6.2 JUST to get Longer File names and had No Issues. It never came up in Win Update to go from 4.6.1 — to ( .2 ) — so IF it is Not an option in June, is there any reason NOT to Install 4.7 Manually?

    As always, Many Thanks!

.NET 4.7 has just recently become available for Win7 SP1. Perhaps it would be a good idea to do some research on the problems with installation and use in Win7 SP1 before moving forward.
Read here about the DirectX Dependency

The DirectX dependency is now available in the Preview of Monthly Rollup released via Windows Update on May 16, 2017. The Monthly Rollup is also available for deployment via WSUS and the Microsoft Update Catalog under the following Knowledge Base Article ids:

      Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP2: KB4019265
      Windows Server 2012: KB4019218

The DirectX dependency is also available outside of the Monthly Rollup as an independent/standalone package in the Microsoft Update Catalog. Due to its relatively smaller size as compared to the Monthly Rollup package, this standalone package may be preferable for ISVs that need to redistribute the .NET Framework 4.7 with their application.

Please see the  following for more information:  The .NET Framework 4.7 installation is blocked on Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 because of a missing d3dcompiler update.

And some information on known issues  can be found here.

      Hope this was useful.

If I download 4.7.0 to my download file and leave it until it is needed will I be safe. I run Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium desktop – 6GB Ram, 1TB HHD.

      • #120276

If you are not going to install it right away, I’d wait to download it so you have the latest version when you’re ready. It’s not going to go away.

I updated to Net. 4.6. in January 2017. It took MS 3 Months to realize this and start feeding me updates on 4.6. 4.5 does not show up anymore. I WILL WAIT!

Thanks PK and All. I got everything from Security Apps Blocks of the .dll subject to ghacks.net’s always helpful comments, one stating the install has caused some problems.

I’ll wait and  monitor this and other Forums’ posts.

P.S. PkCano, ref your 6:26 a.m. post (What OS?) you’re not blind. I added my Signature as a result of the question and hadn’t realized the option was there.

.NET Framework v4.7 appeared as optional when I checked for updates this morning. I shall leave this and all important offerings well alone until others have tested and Woody gives the relevant DEFCON.

Please read the links here about Win7 and .NET 4.7

Exactly why I’m not doing anything!

.NET version usually (or always) take months after their release before they hit WU/WSUS

.NET 4.7 shorted that period, it’s been released just a month ago or so

The microSoft link above says 3 months…

    • #120593

I’ve been running 4.7 for at least two weeks.

I’ve not yet been offered 4.7 on either of my Windows 7 SP1 machines. I don’t think I’d see any reason to install it unless I was running a game or other application that specifically required it.

      • #120630

Do you have the DirectX dependency mentioned in post #120605 installed?

          • #120634

Microsoft’s DirectX Dependency article hasn’t been updated to note that the file needed is included in the June 2017 Windows monthly rollups (but not the Windows security-only updates).

        • #120663

No MrBrian, which having now read the link is obviously the reason I haven’t been offered 4.7. The DXD update was optional and unchecked and not chosen therefore for installation – which I don’t regret as I have no obvious need for 4.7 at least at the present time. Thanks tho’ for pointing me in the right direction.

Just downloaded net 4.7.0 and installed  it. Did a restart and so far nothing bad. If I run into anything wrong I will inform on this page. Am running series 6000 HP DESKTOP with Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium -1TB

HHD, 6GB RAM – 135 programs on it, including MS, HP and my own programs..

    • #120740

I know what you professionals mean by wait until we do testing then give the OK to install!!! I installed 4.7 and now my computer will not start into Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium at all. It won’t recsiognize the monitor so I can’t see what is going on. I am STUCK!

      • #120744

Did you read all the warning links? We tried to let people know it was not ready for Win7.

      • #120751

If you have a Rescue Disk, boot from it and access System Restore. Restore prior to the install. Then read about the DirectX Dependency, the missing d3dcompiler, and other known issues with .NET 4.7 on Win7

      • #120756

If your monitor doesn’t work when you boot from the Rescue Disk, then you need to look elsewhere. Try an external monitor to verify. There is usually a keyboard hot-key that switches between internal and external monitor on a laptop.

    • #120753

Obviously I didn’t. I don’t know what to do now. The power comes on and the startup light flickers just like it always did and stops after loading windows 7 BUT the monitor isn’t recognized. We did have a bad stormy afternoon yesterday. Lots of lightning around my home, power flickered off and on two times. But the power strip shows no sign of damage. I’ll give you more details when I check later this morning.

    • #120755

@ PKCano    Will do. I will run thru all you prescribed. Thanks!

    • #120763

It will be much later today as I have had a break in of my pickup last night : have to take care of that.

    • #120999

@ PKCano   I finally got a chance to address the problem (Net.. Framework 5.7.0 on my desktop. I turned the computer on and it fired up as usual into windows 7 sp1 x64 home premium. Everything works. It must have been a lightning strike close by that caused the monitor to not be recognized. It now  works. (a mystery!)

    • #121000

Az@ PKCano  net 5.7.0 is fully installed. No adverse reactions yet. Thanks for your help yesterday.

    • #121109
      • @ PKCano, Second day after regular startup and no problems “Net Framework 5.7.0 is in command.  I have Win7 SP 1, x64. backed on a Seagate mini 1TB external hard drive, along with the ALL my personal files. Maybe I’m covered,!
    • #121244

Have gone 5days after install of 5.7.0 and no ill affects on my windows 7 sp1 x64 home cia.  2009 premium desktop.

    • #121247

      @BrianL

      It’s 4.7 not 5.7.0 😀

    • #121256

Pardon the error! I am doing this from my android phone. Sometimes I miss the keys.
