In some cases I notice that when clicking on a link to a PDF file IE only offers the option to save the file rather than open it. Is there some way to turn that feature off or add the option to Open?

What pdf reader are you using? I would think these options would be a part of the app you are using to open pdf files. I use PDF XChange-Viewerand like it a lot.

Adobe Reader latest version. I fail to see how the PDF reader causes this as it pops up before the download has started. It seems to me that it is a property of IE itself.

      Which version of IE?

Does the link show that the site directly serves a .pdf, or does the site push the PDF through a script (e.g., .aspx, .php)?

It may depend on the site. A site can force you to download the file.

A site can force you to download the file.

That’s true, but it’s very rare for IE not to offer both choices: Save or Open a file.

It must be that it is a property of the site itself.
