In Word2000, when I open My Docs, the window opens to the very end of the folders, regardless of which view I use. Since most of the folders I use are near the beginning, I always have to use the slider bar to move to that position. It’s irritating and requires an extra step to get to the folders I want. Any fix?

Any fix that I can think of would involve moderately complex VBA coding. I’m irritated by the same thing but so far haven’t been irritated enough to try changing it that way.

The problem is that Word thinks you want to open a document – not a folder!

Do you use the Placebars in Word 2000? There is an Add-In at the WOPR site that lets you increase the number of Placebars to 10 and makes them easy to customize. This might help with your problem.

I think it is called Placebar Customizer. It is a part of the WOPR add-in but is also downloadable separately.

Fix, I fear not. Another dread work-around… but, of course.

This same issue was driving me , so I created another layer of alphabetical folders (mine are AtoE; FtoM; NtoZ) in My Docs in which to file the data folders. I’d much rather double-click a second layer than try to get back and find in a column the folder I want. Plus, I can easily break-down and reorganize the folders as needed.

If your My Docs directory contained NO files of the current searchable type in it (ie any *.doc files) then the first folders would be displayed. So just make sure no .doc files are stored loose in that particular directory – put em away if you don’t like the behaviour. This annoys many people so hopefully one day someone will come up with the answer.
