Word 2002 has an extremely annoying problem. I open word with the ‘/n’ option, as I often want to get an existing document. When I click on ‘File|Open’ the first time after starting Word, instead of getting the common dialog box, nothing appears to happen. What actually happens is that the Word title bar starts to blink, as does the icon on the task bar. If I click on the title bar nothing happens, but if I click on the task bar icon, Word minimizes and the common dialog box appears. When I select a file, the dialog box disappears and Word remains minimized. I have to restore it from the task bar. This only happens the first time I try to open a file after starting Word. Subsequent ‘File|Open’ operations behave normally.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 2, 2002 at 9:29 pm #567991Hi Andrew:
I’m not sure, as I don’t have Word 2002. However, unless you get a better answer you might try changing a setting with TweakUI, if you have it. On it’s General tab, there is a place for a checkmark next to “prevent applications from stealing focus”. One of the options is to have the taskbar flash, rather than stealing the focus.I should mention, however, that I have the option ticked & Word 2000 works properly with the /n switch.
If you want, you can download TweakUI Version 1.33 at http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/dow…g/NTTweakUI.asp.
Hope this helps.
