Every time I double click on a *.xls file, Excel opens a new copy of the program. How do I get Excel to bring the file into the currently open version?
If I drag and drop, it doesn’t do that, but double click muscle memory is hard to break .

These are the directions for XL2010. I presume that they are similar
      File – options
      Advanced
Go to “General” section (near the bottom)
Uncheck “Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)”

        Thanks.
However, it doesn’t seem to make any difference whether “Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)” is unchecked or checked. There is no apparent change in behavior.
