• Open/Save dialogue (WinXP/OXP)

I have a problem where every time I open a document (*.doc) over our intranet I get the Open/Save file dialogue box. This behaviour also happens as I back out to the welcome screen. This appears to be a function of Office XP with Win XP. It doesn’t harm anything it’s just a pain in the censored . We are in the process of
switching all our users over to Office XP and Win XP so I can see it becoming bigger than Ben Her! !

I seem to remember sometime ago this question may have been posed.

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers

How are you opening the documents? – with a hyperlink or using a macro or…?
Does this only happen with Office product(s)?

        Leif

Sorry I set the documents up to open via hyperlink.

One suggestion was that I had varying languages throughout the documents, but I have checked this and they are all set the same.

Is it this “security” type window?

            Yup. That’s the one

It’s getting a bit late, on UK time, for you isn’t it Leif?

I believe it’s standard behavior when you open things in the browser. Does the Open/Save dialog include a checkbox to always (or never) ask? If so, set it so it never asks. It’s an IE option which I believe is controlled by group policies, so you can roll it out company-wide.

BTW – I thought Office 2000 with post SP1 installed had this dialog as well. It’s been ages since I used that version, so I could be misremembering or confusing it with the Outlook dialog for opening attachments added about the same time.

        Mary thanks for that.

No matter how many times I check the “Never ask me again” box it aleways does!

Can you toggle that setting in the File Types dialog (Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Option…>File Types>DOC) ? If it’s grayed out, you might have a Policies issue.

The downside to changing this setting is that it applies to all IE zones, and not just your intranet.

            Thanks Jay. That did it

Thanks to you to Leif for your time.
