I have a web page with a hyperlink to a ppt file. On click I want to open a new window, to show the ppt file (either in slide show mode or edit mode).

I did all that . After clicking the link, the new IExplorer pops up and a dialog comes up asking “…Open, Save, Cancel…?” I click open and slide 1 shows up. But when I try going to slide 2, the “…Open, Save, Cancel…?” dialog pops up again! That is really anoying.

How do I prevent the “…Open, Save, Cancel…?” from poping up more than once? Is it a PPT property or is it html code?

    Thank you

    Guillermo

So it happens regardless of whether the file extension .pps or .ppt?

Can you tell whether IE is using the PowerPoint application or an ActiveX control in the browser to display the one slide? One tip-off is whether the page contains an <OBJECT… or <EMBED… or <APPLET… tag relating to the presentation.

Also, because IE may use MIME-type settings in preference to the File Types settings used in Windows Explorer to determine which program to use to display content, some additional digging might be required. R2 posted a script (sorry, can't recall which board, maybe IE), probably in the context of debugging PDF issues, which would scour the registry for settings relevant to a particular file extension.

          I’m using:

          map in PowerPoint

It is like only the first slide of the presentation is displayed/loaded in the new window, and when I want to go to the following slides, I am prompted again with the “open, Save, cancel” dialog.

I thought that this was a feature that could be turned on/off very simple somewhere in powerpoint , or IE. I didn’t think it would require any complicated code other than basic html!

          thanks for the help

I have PowerPoint 2002 on this computer, and I don’t see any special option for “paging” a PPT in that manner. Nor does it sound as though saving for the web is relevant, because you are linking directly to a PPT.

What versions of PowerPoint have you tested as the “reader”?

If you choose Save rather than Open, does the entire file get downloaded, or just one slide?

Is the PPT file saved as a web page or in PPT format?
