Can i open the same database through internet in another town? I mean to set such a link as in the networks in our office? For the time being we send databases made with autoexec that unpack themselves in the other computers, but it would be fine if we work in real time. I was advised to build web interface but i do not know much about this.Could someone help me where i could start from and what is the easiest way ?

      Hi there

This is a many facetted question!

      1) Am I to assume that you are using Access at the moment?
      2) Is it a local network (just in the one office)?
      3) How many users would want to access the database?

Is this an Access MDB file? You would not want to use Access to work with a file over a slow link, and that includes using a local database linked to tables in a remote database. It’s tolerable inside a local area network because your traffic travels at around 100,000 Kbps. However, over the Internet, you would be lucky to achieve 1,000 Kbps, about 100 times slower. This is why a web interface, having all of the queries and reports generated on the remote server and delivered as a simple web page, usually is the best solution for real-time access. Of course, you need to consider security issues because thousands of computers will discover your database site within a few days and you need to be ready for them. smile
