For the past few months there have been problems with the way OneDrive allows file sharing. This has been a major problem for me and has been the subject of lots of vehement comments and complaints on Microsoft forums, but I see nothing about it in Ask Woody newsletters or forums. Am I missing something? Has this been discussed?
Basically, I have always been able to share folders and the folders are populated on the recipients computer in a folder in Explorer that allows them to have local copies of file that are constantly synchronized with everyone that is sharing the folder. A great way to share and collaborate. Recently, there have been major problems getting files to sync and now problems getting local copies of files. At this time when I share a folder, the recipient can create “shortcuts” on their computer. If they click the shortcut, they open their browser and can see the files that are shared with them. They can download a copy of the file but if it is edited, it does not synchronize with the other people sharing the file.
This is a major disruption of the process of sharing files. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue, and says they are working to fix it. It has been a problem for months and it is not clear when it will be fixed.
I am surprised that I can find nothing about this in my AskWoody newsletters or on the forums.
