Overview:
October 2021 Windows 10 update broke using a share computer on a Home network. Much advice about what works and what doesn’t work to fix this problem created by the update. What follows is my setup with different versions of Windows and what fixed the problem for each version.
My Set Up on my Home Network
Desktop1 – Windows 10 Home version 21H1 (Build 19043.1237) with Canon MX330Printer installed
Desktop2 – Windows 7 Home Premium version 6.1 (Build 7601 – SP1)
Desktop3 – Windows 7 Home Premium version 6.1 (Build 7601 – SP1)
Laptop1 – Windows 10 Home version 21H1 (Build 19043.137)
Laptop2 – Windows 10 Home version 20H2 (Build 19042.1288
All PCs were sharing the one printer without problems until the October 2021 updates.
The updates did not affect the Windows 7 PCs, thus the update did not hinder the Desktop1 (Win 10 21H1 update) from being able to share the printer.
Laptops 1 & 2 both lost the ability to share the printer and each gave slightly different error messages.
I applied the registry key and value as suggested by Bleeping Computer website to both laptops.
This fix the problem with Laptop1 with the 21H1 version, but did not fix Laptop2 with the 20H2 version.
As suggested, I replaced Win32.spl.dll (version .1288) in the System32 folder with the .1237 version of this dll. This fixed the problem.
No fixes were needed for the Host PC with the printer installed.
Hope others benefits from this:
version 21H1 – registry fix
version 20H2 – Replace Win32spl.dll to version .1237)
