Old KB4023057 “stuck” and “Pause Updates” greyed out

My laptop has an old KB4023057 from April in the list even though I’ve hidden it with wushowhide AND WuMgr and it still won’t drop out of the list despite numerous reboots. It was blocking all newer updates from appearing, including the feature update to 22H2. I’ve been able to install the new ones with WuMgr, but this one still stubbornly refuses to disappear. Any suggestions?

Just found a fix on the web – the SetDisablePauseUXAccess registry key was set to “1” for some odd reason – changed it to 0 and the pause updates option is back.

thank you – this is most helpful. It was stuck in the Windows Update screen – but today as I was get set to try the first item you sent me, I find the update has cleared! that’s awesome, but the “Pause Updates” is still greyed out.  I’ve checked in group policy and “Remove access to Pause Updates’ is Disabled. Any thoughts on that?

Just yesterday I was surprised to see KB4023057 was showing as “Installed” in Windows Settings under “Apps and Features” with an installation date of 2-2-2019.  I Uninstalled from this same screen without any subsequent issues.  Maybe it’s been there all along and I’ve never noticed it, but I was surprised when I saw it.  Anyone else have this showing?

Using WuMgr ,  I checked the Update History of  KB4023057 installations and found them going back to 8/14/2021, but in the “State” column NONE of these installations showed as  “Succeeded”.  They all show as “In Progress”.  However, this may be the normal State for KB4023057. I don’t know.

thanks for this post – it made me check, and to my surprise I found it had been installed in April this year! Mine showed up as Microsoft Update Health Tools. It must have slipped by me, but has now been removed, and I’ll keep a sharp lookout from now on.
