My Son runs office 2003 and is thinking of moving from Office 2003 to 2010. Currently his cheapest upgrade path seems to be Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Academic, then get an upgrade to 2010 when it’s released. Would any body care to comment if this is a good idea please?

IMO, it is a good idea if he can get Office 2007 now to do that and begin to get used to the Ribbon interface.

See Microsoft Office 2010 Technology Guarantee: FAQ – Technology Guarantee – Microsoft Office for detail of the upgrade policy.

If he can get 2007 through an academic discount program, he would be crazy not to take it, plus as already mentioned this would give him the opportunity to go through the learning curve sooner rather than later.

It’s a good plan providing he isn’t just starting a dissertation or anything else important because there’s a huge learning curve from O2003 to O2007/2010 and I am still looking for that killer reason to recommend the upgrade.
