Just took possession of a new laptop. I’m in the process of installing all my software. Just finished installing Office 2007. Is it possible to copy my Outlook.pst from my old computer to the new and skip all the configuration steps in Outlook. Just point Outlook to where the pst file is and open it?

AskWoody PlusSeptember 13, 2023 at 10:11 pm #2587212Quick question, is the new laptop a Window 10 or Windows 11 Machine.
It is my understanding that Windows 11 does not support Office 2007. Is my understanding correct?
I know that you can import the Calendar and Contacts .pst files into Office Home and Business 2021 and think the same holds true for 2007.
To save the .pst files click on:
- File,
- Open & Export,
- Import/Export,
- Export to File,
- Outlook Data File (.pst),
- Then find the directories for Calendar and Contacts,
- Then save the one or the other to an external drive and repeat.
You follow a similar procedure to import the files into Outlook on the new computer.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 14, 2023 at 6:06 am #2587295Correct Kathy. Microsoft announced that some versions of Office will not be supported in Windows 11. These versions include any versions of Office released on or before 2013, for example, Office 2010 and Office 2007. However, unsupported doesn’t necessarily mean that these versions of Office will not work. What it does mean is that Microsoft doesn’t recommend it and they won’t support you if you try to install a 17 year old version of Office on a Windows 11 enrolled device, and you will most likely be making yourself vulnerable to security risks. There is always a gap between the official line from Microsoft and what works in the real world.
Outlook is the main concern. There have been a lot of changes in e-mail security/login over the last decade or so. Some e-mail services won’t work nicely with Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010, possibly also Outlook 2013.
