I’m not sure if this is a Win11 issue or an Office365 issue. I used to have and Excel icon I added to my task bar that I added 4 or 5 workbooks to that I used a lot. The icons stayed in the task bar and I could right-click and select the workbook I wanted. I could have a browser open (full screen) and open one of my often-used workbooks open without minimizing the browser. Can’t do that any more. Can’t just drag an Excel file to the task bar like I used to. This affects not just Excel, but Word (and I suppose any Office file). Anyone know a way to do something similar?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody_MVPDecember 28, 2023 at 7:59 pm #2615808It is a Windows 11 thing: No drag and drop of files to taskbar icons.
The workaround is to open the file and pin it to the icon’s recent file list:

There’s a good chance that drag and drop functionality will “return” sometime:
Finally, these features are returning to Windows 11, though it’s currently featured in a build in the Dev channel, which means it’ll take some time before we actually see it in the final Windows 11 release. But, at least we can all take solace in the fact that the features are in the works.
