I have an old developer version of MS Office 97 I have been trying to install on an XP machine. The final message after the installation wizard runs is “Htmlmarq.ocx was unable to register itself in the system registry”. I thought sure I have run office 97 in XP before. Is this a compatibility issue? Can I register this file manually somehow?

Here is one potential way to try and have it registered:

Go to the Run item on the Start menum, and type: regsvr32

      or

How to register an ActiveX control (.ocx) manually

I received this error when I used the RUN command: LoadLibrary(“C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeHTMLHTMLMARQ.OCX”) Failed – Invalid access to memory location. I will try the link to Microsoft Support. Thanks for your help.

I ultimately discovered that Office 97 will install on XP without error if installed before SP2 patch.
