Some info please …. what happens when I create more than 1 user on a machine that has Office 365 installed under the licence for one of the users?

The original user logs into Windows 8.1 and logs in, and sets up Office 365. Office works fine for that user.

Create a new user under Windows 8.1. The Office Applications are available, but now Office 365 asks you to log in. When logged into Office 365 using a second MS user name / password, will Office 365 still work?

As far as I know, the Office 365 licence is per machine, rather than per user. Am I correct in this assumption?

From the FAQ at Office 365 Home[/url]:
“The Office 365 Home plan allows you to install Office on up to 5 PCs or Macs, plus 5 Windows tablets or iPads, used by up to 5 members of a household.”
From the FAQ at Office 365 Personal:
The Office 365 Personal plan allows you to install Office on one PC or Mac, plus one Windows tablet or iPad, used by a single person.

Thanks – I have the Office 365 Home version…. so that would mean that I can let more than one person use it on the same machine (1 of 5).

I see nothing that prevents you from installing Office in a computer in a way that it will be used by multiple accounts. Not sure whether each user account wouldn’t require its own authentication, which then would use one of your allowed 5 accounts.

You can always try it and then fix it at the Office 365 admin page, if it does use an extra account per user.

Incorrect. Office 365 is licensed to a specific email account/user. Office 2010 and earlier are licensed to specific machines.

I have not tried it myself, but as I understand it in theory, other Windows userids on the computer should be able to use Office 365 installed on your machine.

However, with Office 365 Home Premium, you also have the option of “inviting” up to 4 other people to share your Home license. They will be able to install and use 365 on any machine also. You will be limited to using your license with it installed/activated on a max of 5 machines at a time, but you have control to “deactivate” any current installation.

How to share your Office licenses around to the family.
An Office 365 Home Premium subscription has always come with 5 licenses for Office desktop software (Office for Windows or Mac).
Originally you could only access those installs by login to the purchasers Microsoft account. That wasn’t a great idea because it meant giving your password to another member of the family to let them install Office.
Now the owner/purchaser of Office 365 Home Premium can nominate up to 4 other people (household/family members according to the license) who can install Office desktop software.

Click on Add user and enter the email address of the person.
Tip: ask them what email address they have, if any, linked to an existing Microsoft/Hotmail/Outlook.com account. That’s the most convenient address to use for linking to the subscription because no new account has to be created. The extra 1TB (recently upgraded from original 20GB limit) of OneDrive (formerly Skydrive) space is added to their existing OneDrive allowance.

Being able to install and use Office on up to 5 PCs at the same time is one benefit of your organization having an Office 365 subscription with Office 365 ProPlus. For example, a user could have Office installed on the following computers:
• a desktop computer in her office
• a laptop that she uses when traveling
• a home computer

Even though Office is installed on three different computers, only one Office 365 license is used.

So how do you manage to keep track of all these installations? What happens if the user already has Office installed on 5 computers, but needs to install Office on another computer?

This blog post will cover both the user experience of managing Office 365 ProPlus installations and what aspects the Office 365 administrator can control. I have Home premium with 5 “installs”. If I use my own account to install on a desktop and a laptop, then distribute 3 invitations to 3 individuals, have I used all five.

I am confused between 5 users and 5 machines. If one user installs on 2 machine using the same account, is that one or two installs?

5 installs means 5 machines, so it seems you have used all your licences.

I’ve not been able to issue an invite for my 5 user Office 365 software. Contacted Microsoft but no resolution. Appears to be an on going issue according to what came up after a Google search for Office 365 share issues. Spent way too much time on chat and phone with microsoft and only achieved being referred back and forth between Tech Support and Billing. Not even sure why Billing was brought up but end result – numerous discussions – no resolution. I have it installed on my MacBook Pro but can’t issue an invite to anyone else.
