Office 2k under Win XP Pro

This isn’t a problem per se as I resolved it by installing to a new location, but I’m still curious. I have just installed WinXP Pro on my PC on a new hard drive. I have Win2k and Office2k Developer on my other hard drive. I was installing Office 2k in WinXP, including the Developer Tools and MSDN library, and decided to save space by pointing the install at my existing Office2k installation. Everything appeared to go OK but whenever I opened Word or Excel the Windows Installer started up. Access and Powerpoint did not have this problem.
Does anyone know why this might be? (don’t know if this will help but all relevant partitions are NTFS; new disk is EIDE, old one is SCSI.)
