Office 2010: location of title bar text

I’m praying this one has an easy answer.

On my Windows 7/Office 2010 system, the title bar text for office apps like Word and Outlook displays near the center of the title bar. For non-Office apps like Acrobat and Firefox, the text displays on the left side. I’d like to have the Office apps display the text on the left side as well.

I’ve looked around under “Advanced appearance settings” in the Control Panel, but even reverting back to “Windows classic” style doesn’t force the centered title bar text to the left.

Does anyone know of any other tricks I can try?

Hi Arianna,

There isn’t a setting for this. Indeed, with MS Office, you’ll find that the content of the title bar shifts according to whatever is occupying that part of the Word pane.

Maybe I’m being a little thick here… I’ve never known the contents of the title bar to shift from their left or centered alignment on the fly. Is it possible that we are talking about two different things? Below is what I think of as the title bar.

Yep, that’s it. Just watch what happens if, for example, you add some buttons to the QAT (which normally shares the same space) but which you’ve moved below the ribbon, thereby costing some document space.

Aha, now I get you. I tend to use the upper left corners of windows as “grab points” so I never liked having the QAT up there (90% of the time my ribbon is closed and I either use keyboards shortcuts or the QAT). And I always liked seeing the first few characters of the file name in the upper left – for me that was a faster way to navigate between multiple windows than using shift-tab or (now) aero peek.

Time for this old dog to learn new tricks… sigh.
