Is there any advantage to performing an upgrade as opposed to a new install? I can save my Office XP settings with the save my settings wizard and import them into Office 2003. I have a number of add-ins, such as Adobe PDF Maker, ClickBook and OmniPage Pro. Will I have to reinstall these? I have a pet peeve I want to fix: my install of OmniPage Pro was an upgrade and Word’s (but not Excel’s or PowerPoint’s) file menu has lines for both versions, even though the earlier version is gone. I don’t know how to get it off Word’s file menu.

An upgrade is the easier way to go and it should preserve most of your settings, though using the my settings wizard as well is a good idea.

The add-ins will need to be re-installed though there may be some compatibility issues. Check the thread starting with post 307587 for problems with Adobe PDF Maker.

To remove items from Word menu, first select Tools>Customize…
With the dialog box displayed you can then select the item from the File menu that you want to delete (select the item from the menu bar, not the customize dialog box). To remove the item drag it off the menu (left click & keep button pressed whilst dragging the item off the menu).
