We have a strange recurring, intermittent problem that is occurring since we moved our Auditor/Controller department to Officie 2007. It may have nothing to do with Access 2007, but it is happening on just a few PC’s not all. To complicate matters further we recently moved our Accounting application, Banner, to a different platform and upgraded to a newer version. However, since it isn’t a universal problem we have focused on the affected PC.

When we test the ODBC connection, from admin tools, Data Sources., the connection is good, but when we go into Access 2007 and perform the query it times out or hangs. It doesn’t matter whether the user is an administrator or not the problem remains. We’ve tried it using the Oracle instant client as well as a more complete install of the Oracle Client. Your suggestions will be appreciated as this has created a major issue for us.

      Try the following:
      – Open the query in design view.
      – Click in an empty part of the upper half of the query window.
      – Activate the Properties window.
      – Increase the value of the ODBC TimeOut property.

Thanks for the advice Hans. Nothing seemed to work, but as a last resort we blew our users profile away in Windows and let it recreate on login. That worked well so just copied over the bear minium of things from the old profile. All seems to work fine a week later! Guess as a last resort we should consider profile problems, because I’ve seen it before, but just didn’t think it would be so in this situation. Appreciate you efforts on our behalf.

Thanks for posting back with the (hopefully permanent) solution.
