ODBC and Back End (2003)

I have created a fairly complex (by my standards!!) database that uses ODBC to access data from 2 other accounting files. This works fine on the computer I am using but I now want it to be available over the network and have no idea how to handle the ODBC links – Tried making a Back End/Front End but looks like I need the ODBC drivers on each machine. Is this correct Problem is the ODBC is only available for XP or 2003 SBS and some of the networked machines have 2000
Any suggestions

Using an Access backend database won’t help in this situation, since Access is not a server application. You will have to install the ODBC driver on all PCs on which the frontend will be used.

Hans is correct – you will need to install the ODBC driver on each PC that you need to run the database on. You can create a shared front-end by placing a copy out on a server drive, but that doesn’t work well if you ever need to make changes. We normally deploy a copy of the front-end to each workstation, and keep the master copy on a development machine. That way you can make changes in the front-end and test them, and when you are satisfied it works correctly, replace the copies on the workstation with the latest version. If you have lots of workstations involved, the process gets to be somewhat tedious, and you may want to look at a deployment tool.

It’s bad enough when Hans says something cant be done (which really means it can’t) but having Wendell say the same thing means even some one as pig headed as me needs to give up on my plan A and follow your advice – Thank you both for your time , trouble and knowledge- you have no idea how much the help is appreciated
