Anyone know of any GOOD OCR software that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody_MVPSeptember 7, 2005 at 3:17 pm #971439I am using “OmniPage 15” and is worth every penny that I have spent on it. I have been running OmniPage for many years and each version has been money well spent.
You will find some other programs that cost less, but your clean up time will be a lot longer on with any of the better packages.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 7, 2005 at 6:18 pm #971480We use Scansoft OCR with our software. It is built in and it does a great job IF you can inform it in advance what to look for. I am going to try and attach a screenshot of the configuration window. This is done through our software so I am sure that the Scansoft window would be different.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 7, 2005 at 6:40 pm #971485FWIW, if you have MS Office 2003 (not sure about earlier versions), you have a
(but not-so-good) OCR product in the MS Office Doc Imaging Software as explained in OW v10-n28 and OW v10-n29.

AskWoody_MVPSeptember 9, 2005 at 3:24 am #971905I have used every version since version 9 and ALL have been a giant step forward on each version.
I just did a 174 page scan and it was 98% complete. Yes, in the MS Word document, there are a lot of sections and text boxes, do to the different text and image areas. But if one was you look at the structure one can clean things up quite quickly.
I feel it is money well spent.
