    Hello everyone:

I desperately need someone’s help; I am trying to place an object at the very end of a portrait size slide, which needs to be given as a handout. However, when I go to preview before I print, the object is about 1″ away from the edge.

Does anyone have any ideas, about how I can resolve this?

    Thanks

    Dillon

Handouts always seem to have pretty healthy margins around the slides. I’m not sure whether this is something you can adjust on the master for handouts, or something built in to PowerPoint. One option is to export your presentation to Word using File>Send to>Microsoft Word. There you have more flexibility (although your printer driver may limit how close you can get to the edge of the page).

You can try using the “scale to fit paper” option when you go to File/Print, but you’ll always have a bit of a “border.” It’s a limitation of most printers — they need room for the rollers to grab the paper. I guess the border is more noticeable in PPT than in Word because PPT files often have colored backgrounds and things like logos near the very edges; whereas in Word, people seem to expect to have to actually leave a bit of a page margin, and, of course, Word files don’t usually have a colored background added — if you want a colored Word document, you’d print on colored paper.

Anyway, as jscher mentioned, you might try File/Send to Word. I don’t know that it will give you different margins than PPT, but it will at least be easier to center the page vertically. There’s no feature to do that in PPT (that I’m aware of). Steve Rindsberg has posted some workarounds here: http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00097.htm%5B/url%5D Or you might want to create a PDF if you have a PDF maker available.

Just to interject here. The new HP colour printers comming out on the market are now borderless. You can print right to the edge. Great for pictures.
