I do not know how, but somewhere I set windows update to “notify to download updates”

    Type: group policy

    Source: Administrator

Perhaps this is the reason I cannot get rid of windows update notification to download an update I’ve ‘hidden’with wushow. Where might I find the place I did this?
    Thank you
    Don

You asked for that information, but I don’t think that change is going to do what you are looking for.

what I want to do is get rid of notification to download an update I do not want and have used wushow to hide. The notice stays there…so if I understand this correctly, if windows finds more updates it wants to force feed me, it will add a2nd notice to download and install??
      What a mess

The settings you asked for (disabling automatic updates) will stop the notification for updates to download before they do so. The updates in the queue (even the one(s) you think you have hidden, if they are still showing in the queue) will just download automatically without notice.

What you HAVE to do after you hide the updates you don’t want with wushowhide, is clear the Windows Update queue. I mentioned this earlier.
If you DO NOT clesr the queue, the updates you don’t want that are showing in the Settings\Update and Security\Windows Update will still be in the queue,  give you notifications, and download/install anyway.
The only thing that keeps that from happening is having the “2” which keeps the updates from downloading until you can deal with them.

You should go back and follow my earlier instructions CAREFULLY – they work.
Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.

I trust your information without hesitation. Have been a fan for some time. Problem is , I had already completed several steps in AKB2000013. ie stopped and disabled winupdate svc months ago , have been on metered connection, since ver 1803 HOME, ran wushowhide at least 3 times 2 days ago. So as you can see, the carefully listed steps in the above were no longer in order on my machine. That’s when I went looking for other issues which may have interfered. So in the interim, the b****y update in ? downloaded and installed, no doubt due to a mis-clicked action on my part. I then tried to UNINSTALL from PC settings. No it’s still installed. In control panel a totally different update installed sometime today!! KB4524148 is not listed in control panel win updates…but kb4512578 IS listed as installed today- not listed under settings, update ,history tho!! I just love windows10.

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution \Download\***********\ does have cab files for KB4524148 along with a few other fil.es tho

So I guess since I haven’t noticed any ill effects yet, and it wont uninstall with msft tools, All this has been an exercise in futility.

      Your patience is exemplary!

      Thank you very much!

PS Now I,ll go looking to find out what that update is in control panel! Guess I’ll have to try to clear that update que also! I want a drink! Good night!

Running AKB2000013 “months ago” does you no good now. All the steps have to be done every time you use wushowhide. And no where in the procedure does it say to leave winupdate svc disabled. If the updates you have hidden with wushowhide still appear in the Settings app list, you have not cleared the queue, and those updates will get installed even if you THINK you have hidden them.

“I had already completed SEVERAL STEPS  in AKB2000013.”  (NOT all steps as I had never seen the post before yesterday.)

      I did not see:

“All the steps have to be done EVERY time you use wushowhide”  anywhere in the list of steps to follow.

      explains my confusion.
