Somehow my ‘speaker’ icon in the Notification tray disappeared. How do I get it back?

      Right-click the Taskbar.
Select Properties from the popup menu.
      Select the Notification Area tab.
Tick the check box labeled Sound.
      Click OK.

In older versions of Windows, the Sound and Audio Devices control panel has a check box “Place volume icon in the taskbar”. Does this still exist in Windows Vista?

Went to Control panel – Sound, and could not find a tic for that.

(I did find where I could make my speakers sound like it was In a bathroom……. I didn’t check the tic as I didnt’ need to go…..)

But still no icon in tray….

Hopefully someone who has Vista can help – I don’t.

From what you wrote concerning having options to change the ambient sounds, e.g., “bathroom”, either you have “SoundMax” installed or some 3rd-party audio program. I would look in the options of whatever it is you have installed to see if there is an option there to display the volume icon in the Notification Area. I’m assuming you do have sound available, correct? But you simply don’t have a convenient way to adjust the volume, correct?

Its a new laptop so I have been loading a bunch of ‘stuff’. I will go back over what I have loaded and see what I can find.

              Thanks,

              AH Ha!!!
It was Rhapsody! The player that I needed for my Sansa mp3 player. In options I found a box “Disable ‘Start Navigation’ Sound” I unchecked it.
Then I went to the properties for the notification tray and the Sound box was no longer grayed out. Checked it and the icon popped in.

I just love Woody’s Lounge. I would never have found it without your help.

A big thanks to Hans and especially Jeff. cheers hailpraise
