Recently my browser has sporadically refused to show pictures when online, and I seem to get just red X’s where there should be images. The weird thing is, this is not regular and seems to have nothing to do with the Tools/Advanced/ShowPictures setting. Once the browser stops showing images, every browser window opened thereafter seems to stop showing them as well, and (I haven’t scientifically tested it) it seems to require a restart to get the pictures showing again. Has anyone else experienced it? Oddly, if I right-click on the placeholder for a picture, it allows me to save it to disk and then open and view it in a picture editor, so the link itself isn’t broken. Any clues appreciated.

No, not running that. But I forgot that it might be a clash with an existing program! Interesting thought.
I know I’m running Download Accelerator 5, McAfee antivirus online (latest update yesterday), InCD 3.17. Intellipoint 4. Office 2000. All on Windows 98. I can’t remember when/why this started. It’s taken a couple of months at least for me to get fed up with the problem!

By sheer coincidence, I too, was just having this problem when I came here to see if there was anything regarding this in the Lounge. My homepage (msn.com) and the Lounge pages and others were displaying correctly, but anything from Microsoft would not display the .gifs AND the frames were messed up. I was trying to do a KB search and I couldn’t even get the product pulldown to work until I refreshed the page about 5 times. When I did get a search, the results got compressed into a 3 inch high box with a scrollbar whose bottom arrow was hidden beneath the dark blue border at the bottom of the page. After reading your post, I restarted my system and the problem cleared. Funny thing is that this was so site specific – none of the Microsoft sites (Office Update, KB, etc.) were working while others that have lots of .gifs and frames were. I only upgraded to IE 6 about 30 days ago and this was the first time I’ve noticed this behavior. The only ‘interaction’ candidates I can think of are Adobe Acrobat Reader V 5.0 and WebStripper which have been installed in the past three weeks.
