Not enough resources message for the first time

After a year of updates and hotfixes, I’ve run into the problem of not being able to copy an entire worksheet to the clipboard because of the message that I don’t have enough resources.
Particulars:
System – Win7 x64 up to date with all SP and updates, 12GB memory
Office 2010 x64

Action – copying entire sheet from 1-sheet workbook using Ctr-A. Worksheet contains only one-word text in each of 155 rows and 10 columns; no macros (xlsx wb), no formulae. No new plugins. No other programs (apps) loaded.

Work Around – copying only the data needed (155 rows,10 columns) does not give the error.
This is a sheet imported from a .csv file. I had first moved and deleted some columns and rows, which theoretically could have filled the clipboard, but I did exactly the same thing last year and had no problem. (This is for my tax prep reports.)

The only changes from last year have been Microsoft hotfixes/patches/updates. I do follow Susan Bradleys Patch Watch advice, and have checked out all the recommended solutions for this problem found via web searches on the message. Am thinking that it is most probably a result of one of the Office patches or a Clipboard patch during the last year.

Any suggestions? Would appreciate it.

I, too, started getting this problem w/a workbook — but mine had a number of formulas and data. No clue why.
I reconstructed the #$&^* thing and the issue went away. There were no circular references; formulas were fine; worked the day before.
Changed some data to recompute and resource issue. Rebooted, etc., etc., yada yada yada…No clue!

I tried again today with a freshly loaded Excel and a file on which I did no manipulations, and the same error occurred. Found I can get by the message with 4 “Enter” clicks, and can then copy to a new sheet. The contents are on the clipboard despite the error message. I found an Event Log entry for that particular time noting I was low on virtual memory (my system has a total of 12Gb memory, not 8 as I said yesterday, and I had 7.9Gb available). I went into the Control Panel and upped the amount of virtual memory — had been letting Windows assign the amount. Won’t know if this fixes the problem until I reboot, but I doubt it. Something has changed, and it may be a memory leak or a patch from MS a few months ago that targeted the Clipboard I cannot remember which it was, but if anyone does please give me the KB number.

Try manually repairing the affected workbooks. Start Excel with a blank worksheet. Click File>Open. In the Open Dialogue box, navigate to the file that is causing the issue. and select it. Click on the down arrow next to the open button and select Open and repair (Excel 2003+).
