I have Norton Partition Magic 8.0 running on XP Pro. When I make ANY changes to the system it says that there is no active partion and asking if I want to still apply changes. Hmmm, I think I’ve read some on the web that some have done that then couldn’t boot up any more. I have emailed Norton support and even done the chat thing with them where they take over your PC. They couldn’t figure it out and it was like they’ve never seen that error message before. Oh brother.

Any one have any ideas on this? I have a Promise controller card. Could that be why it’s seeing the drive strangely? It also won’t allow me to change any drive to active. That option is grayed out.

Always hate to start with a disclaimer KZ, but I haven’t used PM for quite some time and have only ever had one Promise card and had trouble getting it to see my CD so I gave up. Now, what I don’t understand is your graphic shows that the C: drive IS active in the Status column. So it must be recorded somewhere. BTW, I have to laugh when I read some things at the MS site about this topic and they recommend we use a boot floppy with a prior OS to have FDISK set a partition as active!

Anyway, do you image backup by any chance? I wouldn’t want to try something that might be “destructive” without a complete backup sitting to restore if needed. If so, I think I’d try a change to see if it takes OK, given that the graphic shows the Active. On the other hand, I have to wonder:

On my system, I have XP on one drive and Vista on another. I use Vista Boot Pro to control the dual boot. Whichever OS is booted becomes drive C: and the other takes D: for that time. In a double graphic put together from two screenshots, you can see that Disk Management in XP and Vista report the “Active” status a bit differently. The system works, so I ain’t monkeying with it for now.

Thanks for your response.
That is strange that PM shows C as “active” but then reports that it’s not active. Probably could proceed….just leary to. Most likely it should work since C actually is active…and would need to be in order for it to boot normally now anyway.

I do not have anything image backed up. All of my data is backed up though.

BTW, I finally got back an answer from PM. If I turn off all Norton functions, it shows correctly.
