How can normal.dot from Word 2000 be used in Word 2003 if at all?

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 24, 2006 at 5:48 pm #1001820If you’ve done a lot of customizations, auto-text entries, custom toolbars, etc., copying normal.dot from one computer to another makes sense. Have a look at this article . This KB search has articles on how to transfer auto-correct entries as well.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 24, 2006 at 6:16 pm #1001829Do you mean that you want to use a normal.dot based on Word 2000 in 2003? OR just copy over the auto text entries, etc. Reason I am asking is that it has always been my belief that you can copy over autotext, etc. but should not use a normal.dot based on a previous version of Word on a higher version of Word . i.e. we took an out-of-the-box 2003 normal and modified it to our firm’s preferences so that any new documents created had the compatibility of 2003 and not 2000. If anyone out there has any comments to offer it would be greatly appreciated. TIA,

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 24, 2006 at 6:36 pm #1001831Well, progressing through Word 2000, 2002 (XP) & 2003, I have ALWAYS copied my old normal.dot to the next version. If there are any ill effects, I haven’t experienced any.
You may also use the Save My Settings Wizard (as per this article) .

Thanks for the reminder.
I was conversant in the arcane world of WordPerfect for DOS having gone through the entire workbook, but at work they switched me to Word which I picked up piecemeal. I now read Woody’s Office 2000 when I am hard up, since I have Word almost where I had WordPerfect. However, I am mainly a production worker doing medical transcription.
