I love my iMac and can’t imagine going back to a PC, but I do miss the raised keys on the PC keyboards.  I’ve never gotten used to the relatively flat keys on the Magic keyboards.  Can anyone recommend another keyboard, with the necessary keys, eg, Control, Option, and Command, and function keys.  Doesn’t have  to be wireless.  In fact, I sometimes use my old Dell wired mouse, but for some reason, gave the PC keyboard away.  Thank you.

This looks decent and for a great price with mouse included, whether you need it or not the price is right for both. USB wired, plain and simple.

I was looking at the keys and they appear raised, unlike the flat keys we get these days for Mac. The reviews are mostly favorable, price being a factor and some have compared it to be better than Apple Magic Keyboard’s thin profile.

Good luck and hope you find a keyboard that works to suit your needs for comfort.

Thanks Alex5723 I learned from these choices that what I want is called a “full profile” keyboard such as the Keychron K10.

“Windows” keyboards should also work just fine. I say this as you might find one that fits your preferences but has the “Alt” and “Win” labels. Or, some even have dual labels on the key caps.

Back when I first got a MacBook Pro, I just kept using a keyboard I already had – full size and full key height, mechanical, and Windows-centric. I think it took me about a week to get used to the different key combos – training my brain for new finger positions.

When I moved to the Mac, I gave my Dell keyboard away thinking it might not work on the Mac missing the Mac specific keys.

The keys that are wrongly labeled for mac OS (Alt, Win) still invoke mac OS functions. But if memory serves, it’s basically as if you physically swapped the positions of Option and Command. So that would take some retraining.

Or, as I just found out, you can tell mac OS to remap those two keys:

I never thought to look for this back then, so I had just practiced using new finger positions for shortcuts.

@SB9K The website you provided is good information.   I should have done a simple web search on how to use a PC keyboard on a Mac  before giving the old keyboard away.  Thank you. I’ll save this site.

@SB9K I got the Dell keyboard I had given away back.  Wasn’t being used.  It’s brand new…still in the box. I tried to reconfigure the keys per the link you sent me, but could’t get it to work.  I stopped trying concerned I would mess up my Magic Keyboard instead.  So, I have my own configuration now.  The Magic Keyboard in on my desk right above the Dell keyboard.  I use both…one wireless the other wired.  The Magic for the Mac specific keys, eg, Command and certain F keys at the top, eg, brightness, sound volume, etc.  Not difficult to work this way.  It’s like one big keyboard.  The Dell for typing, way better than the Magic (never liked it…too sensitive) and the Magic for Mac functions.  Working just fine together.  I could add the old Dell mouse if I wanted to to get the scrolling wheel back.

Odd. Was it obvious enough which keyboard was the Dell one at the step for selecting a keyboard to modify?

Yes, you could select the keyboard to modify.  It looks now like the change did work.  The Alt key on the Dell keyboard now works as the Command key, eg, Alt + P bring up the Print dialogue.  All seems to be well.  I guess I was just nervous when following the instructions to modify the Dell Keyboard keys.  Thank you.

To clarify, it’s not a modification to the keyboard itself. When you press a key that you changed a setting for in mac OS, that key sends the same signal (on the hardware level) that it always has. It is the OS itself effectively intervening and treating it as a different key. If you were to plug that Dell keyboard into a PC, Alt and Win will behave as they always do for those.
