no “wireless” button in Wi-Fi status screen

Win 8.1
Wi-Fi works fine, but there is no “wireless” button in Wi-Fi status screen. Without this I cannot save password.

That only shows its status anyway.

Go Network and Sharing Center > click on Wireless Network Connection > Wireless Properties and under the Security tab you will be able to enter the key.

When I click on my wireless connection, as you suggested, the screen that comes up is the “status” screen with “properties” button. A normal “status” screen has a “wireless properties” button as shown in attached screenshot#1. When I go to “properties”, no security tab, see attached screenshot #2.
Command prompt, “netsh wlan show profiles” shows no wireless profiles, see screenshot #3.
In “settings”, change pc settings, network; it shows “no wi-fi”.
But it works.

When I follow the route that I’ve described by clicking on Wireless Network Connection on the Network and Sharing Center “home” page, I get the first window and then after clicking on Wireless Properties and then Security I get the final window – this is in Win 7.

When you click on the WiFi icon in the system tray, does it display the USB connection for you to select Connect/Disconnect – this is where you can also enter the shared key.

Your screens are as they should be but you can see from my screenshots I do not get the “wireless” button or “security” tab. That is my question. Yes, I get the “connect/disconnect” and I do have a wireless connection. I am just missing these parts of the screen and Win 8 apparently does not see that I have a wireless adapter/profile even though my wireless adapter shows in Device Manager and all is working fine.

Not having in 8.1 to play around with, I don’t have an answer except perhaps an uninstall/reinstall through Device Manager and checking the box to include software.

You’d probably need to wire up for it to get the drivers if that’s what you did initially.

May be one of the 8.1 users could check theirs to see what they get by following that route ?

Here are the screens from my Win 8.1 Update 1 machine:

What I find interesting is that SkiPro’s shot of the above (Post #3) shows the UnInstall button greyed out while mine shows it active. Does this mean that the adapter has not been installed?

My Uninstall button was greyed out because I did not have “Client for MS Networks ” highlighted. Again, everything works..
My OS just does not recognize this as Wi-Fi, to SOME extent. Enough to work but not enough to classify it as Wi-Fi and add the functions that are missing.
Another Win 8 on this machine is OK, so it is not the adapter or drivers as they are the same.
