After my recent repair s on my system, I ahev no sound.
Before I get someone to open it up and check the sound card, I wondered if there
were settings ,drivers or whatever, that could have been turned off as a result of
    the repairs.

      Is your hardware recognised?

(In XP) Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Device Manager…
Anything with a yellow exclamation mark beside it?

Any other information you can offer, like operating system?

Given the recent series of posts from you AFTER REPAIRS, such as bookmarks lost, email munged and now sound lost, I think I’d be having a “consult” with whomever did your “repairs” if I were in your shoes. It kinda sounds like someone didn’t do such a nice job of those repairs.

If what Al says is true, I’d follow that route and, in the case of the sound issue have them check to be certain they seated the sound card properly and reconnected the wire from the sound card to the CD/DVD drive.

Probably a driver. type device manager in search>sound tab>is you device listed? does it have a yellow triangle on it? are there any “unknown devices” with yellow on them. If your driver is listed you can right click go to properties and check the status tab. It should say working properly

      Searching “sound tab” uncovered nothing.

How do you include excerpts from my original in your replies, as some have done?
