    Hello,

A query. I don’t appear to be getting any update information from Microsoft. I don’t seem to have had any updates since September 2012, as that is the last date showing in Control Panel’s Add or Remove Programs. Nor is there the shield down by the clock, showing updates available. I have checked, and confirmed, that I have Notify me but don’t automatically install updates, as my preferred option, but I have had no notifications. I am using XP SP3. Any ideas as to why this would be so?

      MileHighFlyer,

Don’t know what is causing your problem but if I were you I’d immediately run Windows Update manually. You can do this by opening Internet Explorer and selecting it from the Tools menu.

If you are not receiving update notifications, it would also be a good idea to download and run Malwarebytes.

Hi, I already have Malwarebytes, MS Essentials, and AVG Free.

When I try to update through IE, I get the message

      “[Error number: 0x8024402F]
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. ”

This may change when I try again later.

      Nope, still the same!

That didn’t help either! It says it was fixed, and now “No problems need attention”. But I’m still getting exactly the same message as previouslyl, including the same error number.

I will check that out, thank you. I have already made sure Internet security options are on default, and looked for the error number, but get the message “Sorry, no results were found that match the criteria you entered.” I shall now go and look at that link. Thanks Jerry.

A couple of days later! Still no joy. Have rebooted again, tried update again with same result. Tried MS repair, which still says it’s repaired and “no problems need attention”, but I still get the same error, (0x8024402F) which means, according to MS: 0x8024402F -2145107921 WU_E_PT_ECP_SUCCEEDED_WITH_ERRORS. Have also tried temporarily disabling AVG so antivirus and firewall are disabled, as suggested by MS. Same result. So, I’m at a complete loss to know what to do!

A couple of days later, again! Still no joy. Have rebooted again, tried update again with same result. Tried MS repair, which still says it’s repaired and “no problems need attention”, but I still get the same error, (0x8024402F) Went to that link, thanks RetiredGeek, and have also installed MS Fixit Centre Online, but still the same. Still says it was fixed, and “No problems need attention”. So when I try to update through Control Panel, it checks I have the correct software, then checks on what updates may be required, but comes back with “The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view.”, but none of the updates. Then I tried to do the Fixit Centre thing again, but it wouldn’t work, just an error message, at which time I closed and reopened it, so it then said it needed an update. After updating Fixit, it appeared to work again! Still says Windows update Components Must Be Repaired, then says it’s Fixed, after it’s told to repair. So nothing has changed, just going round and round in circles! Lol.
