My reserved upgraded to win 10 attempts to install itself. The app restart the computer to prepare for configuring win 10. But no configuration follows, and immediately win 7 reboots again. There is no error message!! The app tries this every half hour, so I had to set the upgrade “after three days” to keep my computer usable.

in Windows Update is a similar announcement that the computer must be restarted to install the update. The result is the same: nothing and no error code. However, there is in Windows Update something strange going on: The history of updates is cleared two days ago completely, but the last two updates ( KB3021917 and an update from Microsoft Essentials), and Update does not search for updates, “because there is an update in treatment.”

    supplement:
to my surprise Windows Update spontaneously started looking for updates and installed the 16 security updates of August 11 . Result: as previously : Update proposes to restart my computer to configure for win 10 (and warns that it will take long). Unfortunately it is very fast: after half a minute we’re back in Windows 7 and nothing has changed (and no error message).

As mentioned, no error messages, so I can not search what I should do. In the Microsoft Community nobody answers on this problem (posted there on 11 of August). Anybody any Idea what to do ?

You could try creating install media and upgrade using it.

Thanks Joe, I didn’t no that an install medium could be used for the initial upgrade, I thought it is only for a clean install after the update (that is necessary to get win10 for free). I give it a try.

Even with the install media you should start the upgrade from within Windows if you want the free upgrade and not have to have a Windows 10 key.

      Thanks Joe,
Good to know there is a way. of course I’ll make an image of drive C before trying.

The result: it worked till phase 2: the files were prepared, after that the computer restarts and something goes wrong before Win 10 is configured. The old win 7 is restored.
      0xC1900101 – 0x40017, during SECOND_BOOT, error in BOOT-operation.
This error message leads to proposed solution in the wiki part of the Microsoft community. I go trying them (it are many possible sources of the problem and some complicated solutions) we will see.
