No clip art in Word 2013

Currently I am running both Office 2010 and 2013 so I have all the clip art files from 2010 on my PC.

Has anyone figured out a way to get them to work in 2013? Right now, I start a file in 2010 if I want one and then save and reopen in Word 2013. Someday, I may not have them both and I hate to lose those files.

You need to point Office 2013 to the local clipart datastore. I can give you the instructions for Office 2010 and you can adapt them for Office 2013. Click:

File | Options | Advanced | (scroll down) | File Locations… | Clipart Pictures | Modify… | “C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeCLIPART” | OK | OK | OK

Note that if your concern is losing older clipart, you’ll need to take some additional steps. Not necessarily right away but as a long-term protective measure.

Suppose that a few years down the road you replace your computer because the old one crashes. Further suppose that you install swanky new Office 2020 and have no backups of old stuff. Finally, suppose that Microsoft has been supplying different clipart with each version of Office (I want to keep this scenario simple).

Under this clean build scenario, you’ll have no access to that Office 2010 clipart. And that’s despite the fact that Microsoft does not specifically version their clipart in the folder structures.

The way to protect yourself is to make a backup of that clipart folder (and all subfolders of course). Now really, you should be backing up more that just a single clipart folder, but that’s a discussion for another day. However I do want to point out that the standard Office clipart folder is found in the programs folders and not the documents folders. Therefore a documents-only backup isn’t good enough to protect Office clipart.

It worked! The only thing different is that my path said Images not Clip Art.

BTW – several other forums said it couldn’t be done.
