I changed bios settings on my Vostro desktop windows 10, needing to boot a live usb Linux session. Afterwards I changed the settings back, and on booting get “no bootable device”. Now it gets weird.

I look at all bios settings, reboot, nope (ie “no bootable device”)

I select to recover bios factory settings, look through and they seem unchanged, but it boots fine.

    I restart: boots fine.

I shut down and restart with “fast restart” enabled, and “no bootable device”

i shut down without fast restart enabled and it boots fine.

I really really want to know what’s going on!

best to disable fast start as it causes all sorts of issues when troubleshooting.
as is evident from your post.
This article will explain further: how-disable-windows-10-fast-startup
It’s more of a nuiscance than a help IMO (especially when distro hopping)

Yep, have done. But I really want to know why this happens. What’s pointing the boot code to the wrong place on fast startup? Or is it?
