Does anyone know where Microsoft might have some general information on how the user.NK2 file works exactly?

I have no problem with re-creating it, or editing it, or anything like that. I would just like more information on how it is supposed to work: i.e.) how it chooses which names it keeps and which it doesn’t, how large the NK2 file can get for user, etc.

I have not been able to find this detailed information on how the Autocomplete file works anywhere on Microsoft’s site.

Names are not resolved as expected when the name cache is full in Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 says there is a 1000 name limit to the name cache.

The section entititled “Outlook Custom Configurations” at Client-Side Data has a very brief explanation of what the nk2 file is for. Understanding the autocomplete cache has more information.

Thank you, Joe. Those three links answered most of my queries about it.

I had a user who was complaining that it wasn’t storing or remembering the addresses she put in (pretty new cache file – her NK2 was only 47k because it was a new machine). But I find she mostly copies/pastes addresses instead of actually typing them in (or looking for them in Global) so I think it isn’t remembering those entered in that way.

But I learned more than I knew before from those links, so I appreciate you finding them for me!
