My friend, Tom, has a Nikon Coolscan V ED 35 mm film scanner. He has recently purchased a new computer with Vista Home Premium.
He cannot get the scanner to work on the new computer. His frustration level has risen because he has found no one at Nikon or Microsoft to help him with his problem.
Has anyone had a similar experience and could they please let me know if there is a work-around so his rather expensive scanner can be used with his new computer.
    Thanks
    Jack

Your friend needs a Vista driver. Try this Nikon Scan ver. 4.0.3 – Windows Vista.

Thanks Joe but he tells me that he tried 4.0.3 and it still doesn’t work for him.

Have you any experience with Vuescan?

Not at all. I just found that searching around the internet. If this is a USB device have him uninstall the device and the software. Then install the software. Once the software is successfully installed (or it asks to plug it the device), then plug in the device.

          Hi Jack,

I do hope your friend took note of the warnings on the Nikon site:

If Nikon Scan version 4.0.2 or earlier is installed, it must be uninstalled before installing Nikon Scan version 4.0.3.

If Nikon Scan version 4.0.3 is installed without first uninstalling Nikon Scan version 4.0.2 or earlier, it will be impossible to uninstall Nikon Scan 4 under normal conditions.

          Cheers,

I haven’t spoken with him for a few days. I’ll forward the information. I’m pretty sure that he told me he had uninstalled the previous version.
