newspaper columns (Word 2002/XP)

Word 2002 “help” shows an example “About newspaper-style layout” of creating a two-column, multi-page document with the first column on each page containing one article and the second column containing a second article, so that the two articles can be compared. It says to use linked text boxes, but I see no way to get multiple pages showing to link.

Can anyone help me figure out how to do this?

I’m not sure exactly what your question is, but if you are asking how to link text boxes, here is the way I do it in Word97.
1. Highlight the first text box by clicking in it. The outside of the text box should be shaded.
2. If the text box toolbar is not visible then click View….Toolbars….Text Box to make it appear.
3. Click on the link on the toolbar.
4. Go to the next text box, where you want to link (it has to be empty), and click in it.
That’s it. Now the two text boxes are linked. Text will flow from one to the other. If I am answering the wrong question, you may want to clarify what information you want. ….J.Till

Thanks. My first breakthrough was understanding that I need to create pages using the “page break” command. Then I can add text boxes as needed, and link them.

It was a LOT of work, as one two-column document was over 60 pages and I had six four-column documents that varied from three to nine pages. That’s a lot of text box creation and linking.
