      Hi
Just wanted to point out the following prerequisite for installing KB5003214 optional Update (if anyone wants to) :

      Before installing this update
      Prerequisite:
You must install the May 11, 2021 update (KB5003173) before installing the latest cumulative update (LCU).

Why was not the “News and Interest” available to everyone from the beginning? it was it testing phase or Microsoft just want to use their usual A/B feature picker?

      • #2367697

Testing phase.  On one of my computers I put in the preview to “kick” it. So far I noticed that the temp doesn’t refresh the greatest in the world.

I like the new News and Interest feature on the taskbar.  The ONLY hitch I’ve had so far is that it seems to force any clicked-on link to open in Edge rather than my default browser (Chrome, in my case).  I’m going to gripe at MS about this one, along with any other instances where Edge or IE get opened instead of the default browser.  Edge is a great browser, but it still has some unpolished edges* that keep me from making it my default.

I’ve also found that, up until now at least, using an Office 365 app to open something “as a web page” brought up Internet Exploder instead of any other modern browser!  With luck, since 21H1 is eliminating IE entirely, that will change to at least open Edge instead, or perhaps someday will go to my personally-preferred browser….

More poor quality features from Microsoft. I’m really getting tired of it. This feature completely broke my taskbar. Clock and system tray is glitching. I can’t undo it unless I redo my whole installation.

“Microsoft told BleepingComputer when the feature was released that it will not be displaying advertisements at launch, but that may change over time based on Windows 10 customers’ feedback.”

      Don’t even go there….

Wow, thanks Susan, but please don’t tempt us, a Quote from the linked Bleeping Computer article has me concerned:

“Using News and Interests, Windows 10 displays news stories and articles matching a profile of the logged-in users’ interests based on their historically read content…”

that ‘matching a profile, and based on their history’ is kinda worrying,
is Microsoft producing a ‘dossier’ file on us for personalized ads?
The Ten Forums website has a tutorial on how to Disable if want to,
has both Group Policy and Registry Edit, Pro and Home, with notes:

The link to the disable and delete register change worked! Not only is the “feature” turned off, but also the item is deleted from the taskbar right click menu. Thank You!

I have seen “News and Interest” (disabled) in GP on 20H2 Pro. Now after 21H1 update the entry has been removed.

      • #2368150

GP is reapplied at startup so the entries should still be there. How are you seeing them removed?

        cheers, Paul

How are you seeing them removed?

I don’t see the entry anymore in 21H1.

ps. Sorry, my mistake. Found the entry.
