    Hi everyone,

I have used HD Tune Pro for about 10 years now, and it has been a great program to compare and evaluate HDD speeds, and overall HDD properties over time.

I just finished a new Z170 Deluxe Win-10 Pro computer build with a Samsung NvMe 950 Pro 512GB SSD on the PCI-e bus, as the OS drive and would like to get the latest Pro version of HD Tune to monitor its functioning.

However, on emailing HD Tune Pro, and EFD software (parent company), and their customer service twice now, I have received no response. Also I see their last blog post was in 2015 & last minor update in 2015. Their web site is still up.

Anyone know if HD Tune or EFD Software is still in business?
I realize it’s possible to download their Free version, or the 1 month trial of the Pro, but I feel less comfortable sending them $35 for the HD Tune Pro version and risking no Product Key or anything in return.

Hopefully someone in the lounge will have used them recently to know if they are still a viable enterprise.

    Thanks
    John

Novabench will tell you your HDD write speeds and you can compare them, but I don’t know what extra HD Tune will give you that Novabench won’t – anyway give it a try and it’s completely free.

Hi Sudo, Thanks for your nice and speedy reply.

I do know there are several other disk analysis tools available, such as OTTO, AS SSD, CrystalDiskMark, CrystalDiskInfo, and AIDA64 both free and commercial. I do like AIDA64 also which is very complete and preferred by many pros (at about the same cost).

I have used HDTune Pro for years, it is a gem, and there is a free, less feature rich version available, anyone can use.

I would like to know specifically if anyone has had any recent information about HDTune Pro, or EFD software, since it is used extensively (even in Tom’s Hardware) for disk speed analysis and comparison. And I think the Lounge group would like to be aware if there is a problem with the company, or if they are just less than attentive to tech questions and customer service inquiries.

So possible one of the Lounge members might have specific information or recent interactions with the HDTune Pro group.

        Thanks,
        John

Just coming off the weekend when the forum is quieter, there may be some who use HD Tune and if anyone had come across it – I would have thought the Mods would have.

As you haven’t received a reply from the vendor, then it’s probable they may no longer be in business – it isn’t as if anyone is going to turn business away.

“…As you haven’t received a reply from the vendor…” Unfortunately, not receiving a reply is nothing new; scuttlebutt across The ‘Net indicates: numerous vendors periodically, not every time, fail to respond to email.

        Hi Roland,

        Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

I did email them again, but no response. You would think offering to purchase their software product would generate some interest.

Wonder if anyone else in the group has purchased HD Tune Pro ($39.95) or communicated with tem (EFD software) recently.
I think it is always helpful hearing other good recommendations about software products from other Loungers, and any not so good experiences to be wary of.

Over the years, I have followed Fred Langa’s recommendations regarding his choices of software products and have never been misguided.

        Thanks,

        John
