Assuming I get my new Windows 11 Pro through the OOBE to install as a Local Account by using the Shift + F10 maneuver then pulling my internet connection cable before it reboots,  should I then allow the Windows11 App to completely finish its installation before reinserting the internet connection cable?

And should I/will the install let me into the Group Policy app to set my Windows Update controls before reinserting the internet connection cable?

    Group Policy>>

Configure Automatic Updates > Enable (Select 2)

Do Not include Drivers > Enable

Select Target Feature Update Version 24H2

Select when Quality Updates are received > Enable

Select when Preview Builds and Feature Updates are received > Enable

Also would  I be able to install install the WUshowhide app?

Please don’t start new threads when you have an existing.

Follow RG’s instructions, then plug in the ethernet.

      cheers, Paul

Understood, but while these questions (and more to come) are regarding setting up Windows 11 on a new computer, they involve completely different installation topics.  Without having separate topics, members will not know by reading the topic that they are questions on various subject matter and therefore likely not bother to read or respond.

RG’s setup was straight forward and did not have need to cover any of these additional topics that I am seeking help with from the membership.

        Local Account vs Microsoft Account

        Automatic Drive Encryption

        Backup Program installation

        Group Policy Settings/wuShowhide

According to Paul Thurrott (linked to in the other thread), you would plug the Ethernet cable back in only after the Windows OOBE finishes and the Windows desktop shows up on your screen.

Note, too, that Paul’s instructions ask you to disconnect the Ethernet cable before hitting Shift + F10, and not after. (I don’t have any experience with disconnecting after hitting Shift + F10, so I can’t say if the process gets messed up or continues to enable us to set up Windows 11 without a Microsoft Account.)

Regarding the use of Group Policy, it is possible only if you have the Pro edition of Windows 11. And yes, if you do have Pro, then you can open Group Policy Editor without having an Internet connection. As to whether you should change these settings, others can weigh in on that.

If you have a copy of the wushowhide tool on another PC or a flash drive, you can copy it to your new machine and set it without recourse to the Internet, otherwise you will have to go on the Web to find the tool and download it.

      Good luck with the process.
