I’m finally about to make the leap from a Win7Ent desktop into Win10Pro with an x64 Gigabyte Aero YB. I’m only a casual gamer, but apart from that I have high-end demands as a professional user of InDesign and Photoshop, and the laptop will also drive a desktop monitor, keyboard and mouse.

My questions are these: which release of Win10Pro am I entitled to expect to find loaded on the new Aero? The reseller is also trying to find out but, what with the pandemic and all, is finding it hard to get a clear answer.

Next: If I get to choose, which release should I ask for?

Finally: If it’s a version that requires me to go through one or more update cycles, what’s the best way to manage this to avoid the hassles that seem to have emerged from every release? As a Win7 user I was, of course, focused on that OS, so I haven’t really been paying full attention to the Win10 cycles apart from occasionally reeling back in horror.

Really finally: if any of the AskWoody crew have had to manage a situation similar to the one I’m talking about, I would of course be delighted to gain insights from their experience..

    Thanks!

It depends on when the laptop was made, but probably 1809 or 1903. Woody recommends 1909, which you can get from Heidoc.net, or as it’s new you could go straight to 2004.

Woody does not recommend v2004 at this point.
If you have a choice, Woody recommends v1909.

Thanks heaps guys, exactly the guidance I was seeking. As to when it was built, the YB I’m looking at (don’t if it’s the same for every country) has 10th gen i9/i7  CPU and RTX 2080 if that’s any guidance. Cheers

Machine details don’t really help as the manufacturer may update the image halfway through a production run.

I get it, but would any sane OEM operator install 2004 until it had been thoroughly put through its paces? Anyway, is there any reason a reseller might refuse to load 1909?
