My computer shop just loaded 1809 on my new pc. I told then I would update it because of the updates the are on the do not update list. If I just put on the update from say the last year would this cover the security well enough? I always update manually using the master patch list from Microsoft Catalog but have never been in this position. I do not want to go back to 2019 and install every update. That would talk weeks. I am  a 70 year old amateur.

    thanks

This is not a LTSB right?

I would opt to put 21H2 on there first and foremost – https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

I am afraid I cannot tell you how I came to own LTSC 1809. This will have to remain my secret.  I have no idea what 21H2 means. I so much dislike microsoft LTSC is the only platform I know that they will not screw with. Look at the lady on this forum the other day that reported somehow her computer upgraded itself to Win 11. And windows comes with a bunch of crap like cortina that I do not want. And having Microsoft  forcing updates that break your computer is criminal. I have been using LTSB for many years and love it. My wifes laptop has LTSC on it and I put LTSC because its end of life is 2027. Even the master patch list here shows there are current updates for both server 2016 and server 2019. I am going to take 7ProSP1’s advice and stay away from 21H2 and keep running LTSC until either it dies or I do.

Thank you 7ProSP1. You gave me the exact answer I was looking for.

According to your latest Master Patch List update, you suggested that it is time to move from Window 10 21H1 to 21H2. I would like to upgrade to 21H2 in the easiest manner possible due to my limited computer background. Do I just click on the link you provided — https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and then click on “Update now”,  or are there any other steps to precede the download or any settings to change prior to the download?

I currently have Windows 10 HOME 21H1 OS Build 19043.1766

        Thank you.

Win 10 1809 consumer versions reached End of Service on May 29, 202 and the Education/Enterprise versions on May 11, 2021.
There are no current updates for Win10 1809 after those dates.

You need to update the computer to Win 10 21H1. Since Windows updates are cumulative, that means when you update it will install the latest update.

Use Susan’s link above to download the upgrade. Choose to keep your programs and data at the first part of the installation.

      @69800 :

According to the information in your post in your “Out of Band Question” thread, you state you do indeed have Win 10 1809 LTSC; therefore, if it were me, I would stay as far away from Win 10 21H2 as I possibly could.

To get your Win 10 1809 LTSC system fully up to date, simply do this:

For the correct version of your system (either 32 or 64):

      1.  Download and install the 2021-10 Servicing Stack Update for Windows 10 1809 (KB5005112)
      2.  Download and install the 2022-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 1809 (KB5015811)

That should do the trick for you.  You will then have all the necessary security updates and fixes for Win 10 1809 LTSC as of July 2022 without all the “feature” updates of Win 10 21H2 that you do not want.

Going forward you will only have to download and install the monthly Cumulative Update for Windows 10 1809 LTSC to keep your system up to date.  Installing further separate Servicing Stack Updates won’t be necessary as they are now included in the monthly Cumulative Updates for Windows 1809 LTSC.

P.S.  When you see the LTSB terminology being used in the downloads from the Microsoft catalog in the links above, don’t worry, as they’re the correct downloads for LTSC.  Even though Microsoft started calling Win 10 1809 LTSC, they decided to leave the LTSB terminology in the download descriptions, presumably to continue to confuse their customers in any way they can.

May I ask how a computer shop sold you LTSB?  That’s not a retail license.

latest LTSC release is LTSC 2021 which is based on 21H2 though

My wifes laptop has LTSC on it and I put LTSC because its end of life is 2027.

this is not entirely accurate as end of life for LTSC 2019 v1809 is actually January 2029:

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-enterprise-ltsc-2019

and the 2027 “end of life” year you’re talking about is for LTSC 2021 as noted here (Jan. 12, 2027 to be exact):

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-enterprise-ltsc-2021

need to get some of those facts with LTSC straight, 69800

The reason I did not use ltsc 2021 was because it end of life has been shortend and 2019’s end of life is 2 years longer…

I would like to update my wife’s PC running Windows 10 Home, version 1803. We have been set on metered setting, a Woody work-around to stop incessant updates.  Will any of these solutions for 1809 work for my PC? (Especially solutions suggested by 7ProSP1). Also, if I am able update, how do I avoid triggering Windows 11 down the road?

      Thanks

Do NOT use that method, it is for LTSC versions only.

Use the link Susan provided in the second post in this thread.

        cheers, Paul

Paul, sorry it took so long to thank you. I did use Susan’s solution and it worked fine. Now it’s a matter of batting down all the various suggestions for a “better experience” and Edge annoyances (we’re using Chrome). Toying with going back to a metered setting!!

          Thanks again.
