    Anyone else experiencing this?

    This morning on my Windows 11 Pcs running 23H2 and on Windows 10 22H2 the new version of Outlook self installed.  Shows in the start>apps.

    I had specifically disabled seeing the try new outlook option (registry edit) as it doesn’t support IMAP and when I tried to use it, I lost all my email.  Took a bit to figure out how to get back to it.  Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2401 Build 16.0.17231.20236) 64-bit.

    Is it possible to disable MS trying to get me to use this new version of Outlook that is a disaster?

      New Outlook is replacing the Mail and Calendar apps:

      8/30/2023 Important: In mid-September 2023 (previously late August), we will also begin a process of auto-migrating Mail & Calendar app users to the new Outlook for Windows with an option to go back if they choose. Users can go back to the current Mail and Calendar apps by clicking the toggle in the new Outlook for Windows. We also want to reiterate that these changes will not affect your organization’s use of classic Outlook for Windows.

      Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows

      Classic Outlook won’t be affected (beyond the “Try” option) for two years:

      Thanks for your reply B.  Yes I realize that MS is rolling out an eventual replacement for the desktop outlook.

      What annoyed me is that they installed the new version in the last update and attempted to convert me without my authorization.  And it gets worse.

      It appears that when new outlook was installed, MS disabled 2FA authentication on my google account that I use for email.  When I started legacy outlook, it appears that the new outlook attempted to launch but because google had locked my email account it couldn’t complete.   I was able uninstall new outlook and recover my google account and reenable 2fa.

      Now I know what you are thinking that malware did this but I’ve run two scans with my security, double checked my two firewalls and nothing was detected.   The removal of 2FA was at the time the MS update ran so I can only surmise it was that.    Hey maybe I’m wrong but if anyone else notices strange oddities with google email accounts and the new outlook installation … I’d be curious.

      I won’t be using outlook when they get rid of the desktop version unless I can keep IMAP and PST files.  I have found that RSS doesn’t work with rules unless its directed to a PST file.  I have a series of rules that flag torrents that I want to download and found only redirecting RSS to PST would the rules fire.  Well thats another topic.

      My chief gripe is that the new Outlook has advertising thrown in, “the Softies” don’t even try to hide it on the setup screen that’s greyed in the background.

      When asked for input why I did’t wish the new version, I am afraid I am rather, shall we say acerbic, as to where the new Outlook and bundled advertising should be placed.

      I am afraid that “Microsnooze” Mail and Calendar is another candidate, in the near future for “O&O” removal, completely;

      Pity really, it worked fine for years in the background with out leaving Office Outlook running in the background, ahh well “c’est la vie.”

      My biggest problem with it is that it doesn’t support Office 365 accounts with Exchange Online licences, you need a licence with the desktop applications included.

      I have a single mailbox on a custom domain that I own and have Exchange Online on that mailbox. So if the desktop version was ever abandoned, I’d be stuck with OWA unless I wanted to shell out for the Office apps subscription, which I don’t and won’t.
