… and after 3 days still no official KB documentation although there is some sort of description in the Microsoft Catalog.
It is still not clear what it does and in which conditions it is offered as it is not offered to most Windows 10 machines.

Woody, my ASUS Transformer Book gets Windows 10 “Updates” every month or two. On top of CUs, “Security Updates” and Platform Updates. I haven’t looked into what the differences are, but yes, there are some occasional “Updates” without further qualifications.

Flash Player and MSRT are “Security Updates” always.

How are those identified as “Updates”? Are they hardware specific maybe, driver like?

UPDATE: Rod Trent reports from WindowsITPro:

I’m told that this update should have never shown up in the normal WSUS infrastructure. The update is only intended for Insiders as part of the pre-release ring and is meant to fix an issue specific to the Start Menu in the Windows 10 upgrade process.

This is great. There is nowhere any indication that this update is for Windows 10 Technical Preview, it just says Windows 10.
There was a previous CU for Windows 10 Insider Preview which was flagged as such and retired after only few days.

More mismanagement of the WSUS realm in addition to what we have seen in the last month, although this time there is no damage created.

Showed up in wushowhide about an hour ago for me.

Meant to add I am not an insider. I hid it until advised by Woody

    • #43124

It has been re-released and is mainstream now, not for insiders and with a KB at https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/kb/3152599

Should or should we not install it (using Wushowhide)?

    • #43126

Scanning my 1511 10 Pro system with wushowhide lists KB3152599, which I’ve hidden. The KB description of “Preinstalled system applications and the Start menu may not work on some computers when you upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10 Version 1511” makes me wonder. I did the update from Windows 7 to the original Windows 10 and from there to Version 1511. I haven’t noticed the Start Menu nor preinstalled system applications not working.

No, you should not install it.

Somebody downloaded a piece of trash. Can not delete it, much less find it.

Yesterday I did a fresh reinstall of my Windows 10 system because of… Yes! Start menu stopped working.
I didn’t know about this update at that time.
