In an Exchange environment using Outlook 2003 SP2, client’s outlook is not leaving an icon in the system tray to show that he has new mail in his inbox, he is also not receiving reminders from his calendar. Another tech prior to my seeing the incident ran outlook /cleanfreebusy and /clearreminders with no change. Any tips?

For e-mail, have you checked the settings in Tools | Options | E-mail Options | Advanced e-mail options | What new items arrive in my Inbox?

Here are the settings which are pretty much default for everyone. I can see no reason for this behavior.

Strange things sometimes happen in the notification area. Have you tried re-booting? Have you checked “Hide inactive icons” settings for the notification area?

Yes to all, but hide inactive icons only affects the system tray and not the Outlook new mail notificaiton popup that is not displaying.

Right now I have created a new rule to check all new messages and display a text box which is a useful workaround since it remains visible until cleared and will keep adding each new message but I’d like to pin down what happened.
